A little more about Flag Football Rhode Island.

Flag football is a fun and interesting form of football during which the defensive team removes a flag from the ball carrier instead of tackling him in order to stop him from advancing. Its history goes back to the 1940s when American servicemen played it as part of their recreational activities. The flags were introduced as a safer way to play football as the lack of tackling meant fewer injuries and reduced physical contact. Typically, a flag football team will constitute 4-11 members who may either be co-ed or single gender. The basic rules are similar to those of tackle football, but the lack of a sanctioning body means that rules may vary across different regions. Flag football is an extremely popular amateur sport, with several competitions held at regional, national and international levels.

Flag Football Rhode Island takes the same form as in many other places. Leagues are held at various sporting facilities across the state, attracting larger and larger numbers of players, especially during the summer months. Scarborough and Narraganset beach are popular venues for the game, as people choose to take in great weather and enjoy the sandy beach and crashing waves after a vigorous game of flag football. Indoor flag football is a great alternative during the winter, when freezing temperatures dampen the mood of even the most enthusiastic of players.

Honesty and good sportsmanship are encouraged in order to retain the spirit of friendliness among members. Whether you choose to have your game indoors or head to the beach, you can be sure to find great people willing to join your game. Registration is easy and you can do this by filling out the form available on SFAC’s website. Membership is completely free and league and participation fees are completely affordable. You can bring along your own co-ed or single gender team or join other members to form one that will enhance the friendly competition. All SFAC’s sporting and social programs are designed to ensure that you have the maximum amount of fun, in addition to gaining many other benefits such as an improved social life and a fitter, healthier body.
